Tara's Signature Framework

The Creative Journey

Every child is creative. What changes from one young artist to the next is where they are along the journey: still hiding their work, afraid to make mistakes, comparing themselves to a friend who "draws better." Tara's Creative Journey gives you and your child five honest, named stages of growth, so you both know exactly where they are, where they are going, and what builds confidence along the way.

Stage 1
Clarity

We identify where your child is, where they want to go, and what's been holding them back. They leave with direction and a clear next step.

Stage 2
Foundation

We strengthen their skills and teach them how to approach their work with intention. They start to feel more in control of what they're creating.

Stage 3
Style

Their unique voice begins to come through. They create work that feels like them.

Stage 4
Identity

They become the artist they've been envisioning. They show up consistently, finish their work, and take their creativity seriously.

Stage 5
Confidence

They stop second-guessing every decision and start trusting themselves. Art becomes an expression of who they are, not pressure.

Let's create the artist they already know they're capable of becoming.

What Tara Believes

A Philosophy, Not Just a Method

What makes The Confident Artist different is not what gets taught in the studio. It is what gets believed about the child sitting at the easel. These four beliefs shape every session, every conversation, every encouragement.

Every child is creative.

There is no such thing as a child who is "not artistic." Some have been told they are. Some have decided they are. Tara's first job is to gently dismantle that story and meet the real young artist underneath.

Confidence is built, not given.

It comes from small honest wins, finished pieces, and a coach who notices what is working. Tara does not hand out praise; she names what is real, and your child learns to trust their own eye.

Mistakes are part of the learning.

A child who is afraid to ruin the page cannot grow. Tara teaches young artists to lean into the wobble, the wrong color, the "I messed it up." That is where craft and courage are actually built.

Art is expression, not perfection.

The goal is never a "perfect" painting. The goal is a child who can put what is inside them out onto the page, and recognize that what they made is theirs, and that it matters.

Meet Your Child's Coach

Hi. I'm Tara.

I am a working artist and lifelong educator, and I built The Confident Artist because I have watched too many bright, creative kids quietly decide they are "not artistic." Every child I work with is creative. My job is to walk alongside them in person, week after week, until they believe it too.

Tara Hines, Founder of The Confident Artist

I meet each child where they are.

Some kids walk in nervous. Some walk in performing. Some walk in convinced they cannot draw. The first thing I do is set all of that down and pay close attention. Every young artist starts the journey from a different place, so the work starts from where they actually are, not from a worksheet.

I build trust before I push.

A child who does not feel safe in the studio cannot take a creative risk. Before I ever ask your child to try something hard, I earn their trust. Once that is there, they will try almost anything, and that is when real growth happens.

I teach craft AND courage.

Real confidence is not "good job, keep going." It is the quiet certainty that comes from learning how to actually do something, and from learning that mistakes are part of the path, not the end of it. That kind of confidence stays with a child long after the painting is dry.

I partner with you, the parent.

After each session I tell you what your child worked on, what I saw shift in them, and one small way you can support that growth at home. You are not dropping your child off at lessons. You are walking the journey with us.

"Every child is already creative. My work in the studio is removing what is in the way, not adding what they are missing."
